About Kate Powers

Author. Educator. Neurodivergent Mom. Storyteller.
Creating from the chaos—art, stories, and soul.

Hi, I’m Kate Powers—a children’s book author, special education teacher, and neurodivergent mom of two exceptional kids. I write stories and create resources that help families and educators navigate the challenges of parenting and teaching neurodivergent children with more compassion, clarity, and connection.

I believe in the power of gentle support, visual tools, and storytelling that validates real experiences—especially for families often left out of the mainstream narrative.

Why I Write

My children's book series, Little Dragon, was born on a hiking trail with my son—a quiet moment that sparked a lifelong mission. Through Little Dragon’s adventures, I help young children (and the grown-ups who love them) explore big feelings, mistakes, and the bravery of being themselves.

These stories aren’t just for kids—they’re for the tired, trying parents too. The ones showing up every day, even when they’re running on empty. The ones who know that connection matters more than perfection.

What I Bring

With over a decade of experience in public schools, I specialize in supporting neurodivergent children in inclusive, trauma-informed classrooms. I also bring the lived experience of raising two twice-exceptional kids—one now a teen astrophotographer and the other studying medical illustration in college.

Through my writing, resources, and teaching, I blend research-based practices with deep empathy, offering tools that meet families where they are.
